All I want is a system that can run xbmc as fast as the ouya does and is open enough to install a decent torrent client.

That's a fair point though as I understand it, without the handshaking bug being fixed, no multi-channel audio will be getting out of the ouya at all.

I got my flirc and it works perfectly, got xbmc controlling just the way I want it with my harmony remote. Still a no-go for me though because of the lack of multi channel audio!
