What did you expect, if you don't mind my asking?
I know OUYA has been advertised as making it easy to make your own games. That's only partly true, in that OUYA makes it a lot lot easier for people who already know what they are doing. However, ma…
OUYA is a bit odd in that there is no one single way to make an OUYA game. Basically, anything that will let you make an android game, with a little bit of modification, can be an OUYA game.
A couple of good places to start are Gamemaker and Unity3…
First off, you don't need to add a game on the web portal until it's finished and ready to be put on the store. While you're developing, you can just follow the OUYA docs to get your game onto your own console, where you can test it, but other peopl…
Don't think there is much they can do really. The idea of giving everyone affected some OUYA store credit has been floated, but it'd be a nightmare to pick out who might or might not be in line for it (inevitably, someone would feel the righteous in…
I think you just get the devkit / what you've already got. That's my understanding anyway. I've found my controllers to work fine (except for the stupid diagonals on the d-pad), and I have a PS3 controller for games that need a decent d-pad anyway.
…
I think paypal is essential for both customers and developers. Some countries, people just don't have/use credit cards, and paypal is an alternative most people trust
Definitely one for playing while drunk with your mates.
I've demoed Amazing Frog to a whole bunch of people, and I think it kinda depends what mood you're in. Some people just don't get it, others are in stitches
It is to do with the way the OUYA IAP is set up. There are two types of product at the moment: Entitlements and Consumables. Entitlements can only be bought once, consumables, many times over.
A game with a demo and an unlock could have multiple en…
Every game has to have a free to try part. The idea is that if you display the price in the store, it defeats the point of having that. People will judge the game on the price and screenshots, rather than what it actually plays like
Plus not every …
Actually, just looked at the docs, since I'm doing IAP myself, and it isn't obvious at all.
If you look at the sample app, the key has already been hard-coded in, but it isn't clear how you get that. In the end, I wrote a helper program in java to …
I think it just takes time to implement all these ideas. If you look at what Amazon does in terms of recommendations based on your previous purchase/browsing history, what other people with similar tastes have bought, what people often buy together …
@itsjustac check out the thread I linked above. Appanrently, although it's being labelled as CryEngine, the Fibble game is actually using a different engine
Well before completely giving up on it, maybe we can go through a few things first
So you downloaded the updates, and then the OUYA informed you it was restarting and not to turn it off. Then what? Did it restart and just not come up with anything?…
It's the budgets that are the problem. I suspect most of the $15mil OUYA got in VC at the end of last month will go straight on making more consoles. Now that all the kickstarter units are shipped, the money to make those actually has to be spent. B…
FPS and Racer genres are famous for their graphics, which is not OUYA's strong suit. Why try to compete directly with other consoles? I'm hoping OUYA provides alternative FPS games that aren't just the usual zombie/whatever else apocalypse or milita…
Two possibilities: With my own (devkit) controllers, sometimes they turn themselves off to save battery. Not usually while they are being used though, and takes at least 5 or 10 minutes for them to decide to do so.
Another cause can be it you have …
FYI OUYA renamed themselves from Boxer8 to OUYA Inc. a while back.
Apparently, OUYA originally went to google about getting the play store on the OUYA and got told no, because it didn't have touch screen capability (the controller touch pad wasn't …
PC doesn't have to be that powerful. I've done some development work on an old Asus Eee PC, which was a low end device when I bought it back in 2009, so technically it's possible to do development on some really underpowered hardware. However, that …
Is this from a fresh restart? How long is it taking before games start to lag out, and how quickly do things deteriorate? Roughly how many different games are you playing and for how long on each? Have you been downloading anything beforehand?
I fi…
Heh, we get these type of threads about once a month at ouyaforum.com
GTA Vice City seems to top the polls quite often, owing partly to the fact that it apparently works beautifully with full controller support when sideloaded onto the OUYA.
I thi…
Who have you been talking to (or trying to contact)? The main contact for developers and general developer 'concerns' I believe is Kellee Santiago. I spoke to her over skype a week or so after she started, and she said if developers like me had conc…
ItsJustAC said:
I wonder what may be going on with in-house game development. With the incredible funds, if I was in the OUYA shoes I would make a title in just about every genre to show off what the system can do graphically and in terms of …
This happens to all my android devices from time to time. Restart adb ( "adb kill-server" then "adb start-server"), and try also unplugging the OUYA from your PC and re-plugging it in.
Looks like there is still a bug where if you have more than one controller plugged in, using the analogue stick to navigate left/right between tiles in play and discover still skips through a bunch at super-speed
Otherwise, looks great. Did you dow…
Just downloaded the latest update and I'm finding my character is drifting a lot when I'm not touching the controller (presumably the deadzones aren't big enough). This wasn't happening on the previous version
Also, when you first load up the game,…
Thanks for this! I've read a couple of other similar guides that say things along the same lines, so good to have it re-confirmed that I'm doing things right
What I'd like to see is use of the "Make" category, which would allow users to download beta games that game developers want people to help test. Game devs could have the option to make their builds to either available to everyone, or groups and ind…
