I love the idea of the Ouya and i wish it will. It seems like indie heaven. But do you guys think that people would go out and buy one? With the PS4 announced and the "nextbox" coming around the corner, would people even pay attention?
I don't consider them competition at all, given what's likely to be a $300-400 pricing difference (8GB of GDDR5!), not to mention the price of games.
The OUYA doesn't need huge sales anyway; unlike the big consoles, the OUYA likely isn't being sold at a loss, and if it is it's minimal. If they can sell enough to support developers making good games, everything will be fine.
At $99, and with a few killer games, it'll be the perfect companion to a PS4/nextbox.
I'm certainly not going to be purchasing an Xbox or a PS4. I probably won't even get a Steambox if one ever appears. Why? Because I see no reason I need to keep renewing an expensive subscription to some proprietary service just so I can play some Team Slayer on Reach a few hours (at most) a week, when instead I can spend $100 a year (at most, which by the way I've spent more on a single grocery trip in the past!) and get free access to multiplayer in Offensive Combat / Open Arena / Critical Missions (in this case, graphics are not an issue to me, even though I know they will get better I still value fun over beauty) I can't be the only person who thinks this way, right? ;)

You didn't remember the plot of the Doctor Who movie because there was none; Just a bunch of plot holes strung together.
I think different people are interested in OUYA and different in PS4/new XBox. Some overlap - but those will probably just buy both console if they have the money or only OUYA if they don't. OUYA will cost probably close to what two games for PS4 cost.
Right now, Sony are on a serious PR campaign to win over developers. In the last 12 hours, there have been about 6 different pieces in games industry focused publications:
This is all aimed at bringing in the sort of small Independent studios making high-quality, professional games, rather than indies. I think that's a direct threat to OUYA, as pulling those devs time/resources away from OUYA will leave OUYA's game lineup looking poorer and a less polished selection
There is definitely a market for Ouya - the lower cost automatically opens it up as an option to many many people who wouldn't to or be able to spend several hundred on a big console with expensive games. It might be a smaller market, perhaps. But it has its own niche. $99 is way far removed from $400 that it appeals at a whole different level. Obviously the Ouya team know this otherwise they wouldn't be investing all this time and effort to commit to this project.
It is a bit unfortunate that Ouya is releasing in the same year as PS4 and NextBox etc, because they are pretty powerful, popular, established, higher-performing systems which really can smother `little Ouya`s voice, but hopefully Ouya can still make its presence felt in a strong way. It's going to need a lot of really good games, perhaps games that you can't get on the big consoles, and to make a reputation for itself as a place to play much more fun games or niche games or better multiplayer or whatever. I think it's going to in general have a different audience even if there is overlap. I hope Ouya games will be in the $10-$20 kind of pricerange for `the whole game content`.
Well I thought the wii-u was underpowered in comparison to the current generation consoles and it going to be blown out of the water by ps4 and xbox720, but the only game I thought was interesting on the PS4 was watch dogs. Maybe if there was a really great game that was exclusive or at least timed exclusive to the ouya people might start buying it (a console seller).
If GTA5 is an xbox exclusive its allover but the crying.
Only very few indies can afford to do PS4 development. Sony is requiring the purchase of a devkit and it likely costs 5k-10k. Not to mention Sony is obsessed with control. Its built into their DNA. They will not adopt an open model like they are suggesting. It is only skin deep. They called their Vita development open as well, but devkits cost 3.5k! not to mention approval policies. Ouya has nothing to worry about. There is nothing that scares Sony more than losing control of their platform. They will grip it in their hand as they lie in the dirt dying. If anything, Ouya should be concerned about SteamBox.
The thing to keep in mind is that the ouya is best successful with amazing games, and that requires us to all help each other and work together. We can get more done if we all work together as a group.
The Ouya is such a different kind of console I don't it should be 'worried' too much, but it still needs a strong marketing drive and great games.
Its more open and more portable than any other TV based console and it has graphical performance similar to the Playstation Vita which is very impressive in itself. Now we just need great games and an opportunity for people to get the full advantage of this platform.
I'm still a bit concerned about where we stand with games and I expected a bit more of a blowout by now, but we'll see.
Still, to arrive next month I'm still more excited about Ouya than any console. I want to see some great, unchained developments come out of it.
It's strange, I'm just not keen on any of the big three this time around. I bought the Wii on launch, PS3 last year. Wii U, just passing. I like the tablet controller idea, but it's too bogged down with classic controls to really take advantage of the controller potential :| PS4 is more of the same.
I like the Ouya being more indie open to see creative games on the big screen. Just, meh pass on the big guys this gen unless something really amazing comes out.
