"CEO Julie Uhrman confirmed that the much-anticipated Android games
console will arrive at retailers nationwide this June. The company has
struck deals with Target, Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and others to
carry the system, which will be priced at $99.99. While the system comes
bundled with a controller, the company will also be offering additional
controllers separately for $50."
"The pricing is the same across the board: The console is $99.99, the standalone controller is $49.99. It’s a premium price for a controller, but with the inclusion of the touchpad really makes it a premium in the marketplace."
Premium price? For a wireless Xbox controller here in New Zealand, it costs around $80NZD (official one, not third party). If the OUYA is sold over here and a separate controller costs around $60-70NZD... I don't really have a problem with that (:
Well, the price looks premium in comparison to the console itself. :) $50 for such controller is an OK price I think, I bought a very bad no-name one for $40 recently (to test my games).
This is great news, when I've tried to get business loans, more than once I've had a skeptical loan officer complain that no OUYA retailer had been officially announced (they all ask where OUYA will be sold). Maybe this news will finally tip the loan scales in my favor :)
We’ve had 68,000 backers, we have more than that in pre-orders today
Hope I'm not reading into this too much, but that would suggest there are at least 68k pre-orders, which would mean more than 136k OUYA's being shipped by end of April
Well if you look at the kickstarter page not every backer got a console (and there werent even 68k backers) couldnt that mean that there are simply more pre-orders then 68k.
So they did update the article and it now says. So does that mean that we are really only sold 5k units after the kickstarter for the next batch in april?
Update: Uhrman meant to say the console had more than 63,000 Kickstarter backers, and more than 68,000 consoles on order including backers, a company spokesperson said. Uhrman said in the original interview that there were 68,000 Kickstarter backers.

Based purely on anecdotal evidence, I highly doubt it is as low as 5k. Which just confuses things even more. It'd be really nice if OUYA could just come out and tell everyone how many units they've sold. And also where those people come from (what countries) so developers know what countries / languages to localize for
Edit: or even just percentage breakdown by country if they don't want to reveal their sales figures
Well if they sold 60k at the kickstarter and they said we sold more than 68k (then its only 8k) otherwise they would have said over 150k over 100k etc (not over 68k, in fact why else would they mention that number unless that was how many they sold total).
