SUPER ROBOT SPACE FIGHT!: Planetoid gravity in a 2D 4 player run and jump shooter for CREATE. +APK

My game for CREATE is a dual stick run and jump shooter with planetoid gravity for 2-4 players where you run from hordes of monsters whilst attempting to destroy the enemy ship. I created this in Unity and there were some bugs concerning inputs from multiple controllers canceling each other out that I couldn't fix in time for submission... I'm fairly certain it's an issue in the current Unity package for OUYA, but it's pretty fun for two folks regardless. I left 4 player support in there even though I couldn't test it; hopefully that's functional enough to be fun, too!

I spent 10 days (+1 for the title screen and making the video :) ) making this game and it was a really fun experience! I've talked about it at length on /r/gamedev and my dev log, but I'd just like to again thank the community here, especially tgraupmann and marco in the Unity forums. The development of this console is feeling like a pretty great collaborative experience between the hard working devs and the community; that's really made this a great experience.

My video's done pretty well on Reddit, but like most other devs here I'm struggling to actually get likes on twitter/facebook/youtube. I didn't think to add youtube annotations asking for likes until a couple days ago :P. Hopefully this social stuff won't matter too much! I would of course appreciate it if you threw some likes at my game's CREATE entry page, though.

Though I'll definitely be getting this game when it comes to OUYA, I was just imagining how more awesomeness this would be if it was fully 3D (like Super Mario Galaxy). I could see a lot more variety if done in 3D but nevertheless this is still awesome (:

    Thanks!

It'd be a very different game in 3D: things ranging from the perspective change to split screen requirement would make the pacing, whether you could even see your opponent at a given time, and how you'd defend entirely different, and the controls of course would be, too.

With small enough planetoids it would at least look pretty cool in full 3D :). I can imagine designing a fun multiplayer base defense game from that perspective; it just would be an entirely separate and different task from what was done here.

I just got the approval e-mail for SUPER ROBOT SPACE FIGHT!'s addition the OUYA Store this morning, so feel free to check it out that way if you're interested :D. It should work fine for two players, and I hope it works fine for four, because it's technically supported but I haven't tested it.

I'm planning to continue working on this to get it ready for launch (despite its apparent failure at CREATE, sniff sniff :P), and am excited to see where this all goes. Initial plans include some single player and coop action as well as more multiplayer vs. maps and more of the base building that didn't make it into the prototype (turrets, shields, etc.)... who knows, I might get more carried away than that, even.
