Just wanted to make a post about my OUYA Create Jam prototype submission, 2 Hando Commando.

It's what I call an "ambidextrous shooter", where you can control two guys on the screen with each side of the OUYA controller. The prototype is a splitscreen 2-player game with two maps and two character classes, Officer (pistoleer) and Rifleman (3-shot burst). I almost got a rocket launcher guy in there too, but ran outta time.

The game is a pretty traditional top-down multiplayer shooter except for the fact that it's totally disorienting in a really fun way. :)

I built the prototype solo with Unity Pro and a bunch of asset store tools. The maps were made with ProBuilder, GUI with NGUI, some basic game state machines with Playmaker, created character models and animations from scratch in Blender, and created some prototype SFX with cFXR. All-in-all, it went about as smoothly as I've ever had a prototype go, and it's awesome to play it on the bigscreen with an OUYA!

    After fiddling around with input a bit today, the game's 2000% tighter in terms of controls. Although I did convert over to JNI for input control, I also found big wins in getting rid of movement inertia and adjusting deadzones for my axes to 25%. If only I had time to make these adjustments before the CREATE deadline! Alas.

    I also added in a rocket commando to the selectable classes. It's going to be one of the "intermediate" difficulty classes, because instead of auto-aiming, you can manually aim while holding down the trigger, releasing to fire. I screengrabbed a quick vid that I'll post up tomorrow.

    Making code adjustments to allow for really flexible weapon subclasses was pretty fun! Now I have a ton of ideas for more classes to add into the game to really give it a huge amount of MP depth. :D
