Well, we didn't quite get as far as we'd hoped for the CREATE deadline, but here is what we have so far. We hope you are as excited to play it as much as we are to finish it :D
Some details:
- Both being very busy, we were able to achieve what we have in a weekend and a couple of evenings.
- Ben Hartley (the artist) had never done pixel art before.
- I was new to Android dev, had never used LibGDX, and hadn't touched Java for a couple of years.
- Much more artwork has been completed than is shown in the video / game.
- The code will be released under an open source license once the game has been released, we hope it will be a useful resource for others looking to make 2D games on OUYA.
- Collision detection has been implemented (see bouncing cookies :D ) but requires a little more optimisation before we can have it turned on for bullets at 60FPS.
- The final game will feature interchangeable weapons, power ups, explosions and a cool insect ally protection mechanic.
We welcome your feedback and can't wait to play everyone's games!
Here's our videos for Role Mouse! Since we didn't have a development console ourselves (standard kickstarter backers), we managed to find some nice developers online to test out our game! Somehow, we managed to get the gameplay and networking done in time!
I ended up having to fix some major issues at the last minute, so I unfortunately was only able to take a gameplay video on my Nexus 7. Alas, here is my entry, MagBall:
Hi, this is our entry for the CREATE contest, done by three developers from Path-O-Logical Games.
It's a fast paced low-poly style shooter for a single player.
The past two weeks have been really tough, but we are happy to have kicked of the year with a promising prototype to develop further in the coming months.
Features include procedurally generated levels and several weapon, armor and invulnerability powerups.
Lots of enemies, explosion and effects. We're also working on an iOS version.
Please share and like the video and join our Facebook page if you want to stay up-to-date.
