Touchpad ideas

I've seen a share of users saying the touchpad is useless and should go, so I thought of listing creative, intuitive ways to use it:

- On an RTS or RPG, use the touchpad to move a cursor that is constrained to the actions menu
- Swipe in different directions to bring up different menus (map, inventory, spells, etc.)
- Swipe to use a melee weapon (like infinity sword)
- Touch to quick access to view an area on the map (requires API calls to get the absolute position)
- Scrolling in case both analogs are used up for other stuff
- Zooming up/down an sniper rfile

Well, you can do all that on one of the sticks too. But additional control can't hurt.

Absolute position for mini-map movement would be fantastic! No console has a good solution for jumping around a large map.

I was considering it for camera control:
horizontal swiping for orbit control, and vertical swiping to change camera elevation.

I've noticed that the sensitivity varies widely.
Sometimes a swipe will move the mouse cursor only a few pixels, and sometimes half a screen.
There is very little consistency in the swipes.
So yeah, it will be of limited use if you need fine control.

From what I noticed, the touchpad has a strange behavior that if you move slowly, the range of motion is smaller than if you mave fast. Maybe it's the idea to allow both precise and fast pointer movement?

Either way, if any means is provided to read the absolute position, any developer can write their own cursor codes the way they please.
