Common game settings

I think the dashboard should have a section to adjust settings that are common among games such as:

- Invert look
- Brightness/contrast
- Screen limits (overscan compensation)
- Analog layout for 3d shooters
- Sound/music balance

This would simplify configuration and allow players to start playing quicker, with greater guarantee that the game will play the way they want.

+1 to the second and third, but all the rest are far too game-specific. For example, how does OUYA know what corresponds to sound and what corresponds to music?
I think these should be stored in the game's settings page itself (which in any self-respecting game should be easily accessible from the main menu). Gamers won't complain, I promise.
You didn't remember the plot of the Doctor Who movie because there was none; Just a bunch of plot holes strung together.

The ouya wouldn't. The game would ask for the setting and adjust accordingly. If it doesn't need it then it won't ask.

I disagree with the "screen limits" one, people would expect every game to respect that, and I for one don't want to make my game look ugly by scaling the image down to whatever they set there, when I can get a better effect by just not putting menus/HUD at the edges of the screen.

A game wouldn't be forced to follow. If the player feels a given settings is not optimal to the game, the developer can always have an options menu with a "system default" option on settings that are in the system menu.

Also, forgot one that annoys me:

    - Measurement system (imperial or metric)

A list of preffered language is a good idea too.

The idea is not to have the system set these for the game, but to tell the game how they SHOULD set it up by default.

I agree with all except "Analog layout for 3d shooters" since that is game-specific. Invert look is too, but it can apply to more than just FPS, like an RTS camera control.

As far as the screen limits, I think it would be great for them to do this, and all it gives your game is a Min and Max position that marks the safe zone.

As long as these are just numbers and your game can interpret however you want, I think this is a good idea.
