Can't access 'downloads' via ADVANCED menu anymore

Is this a new firmware change? I see 'Downloads' (along with 'Audio' and 'Video') flash briefly, but they then disappear and I can't access files downloaded to internal storage. I'm also having trouble getting USB sticks to recognize. Has sideloading been disabled in the latest firmware? How should USB drives be formatted? Anyone else having the issue with the downloads menu?

Any advice is appreciated -

    Look for the yellow app with "O, U, Y, and A" on it's picture, it is a file manager and see if that helps.

    Thanks for the suggestion mjoyner - I did try that but for some reason the download folder showed as empty, which I know isn't the case... hm...

    I have the same problem with the flash drive.
