Updates Optional??

Is there a way to make system updates optional? or at least not automatic.
The wireless connection where I am is a bit "dodgy". The updates almost never complete, I get a prompt 9 out of 10 times saying I should check my internet connection...the xbox and a farely cheap android tablet seems to pick up well at the same spot :/
I really wish I could cancel the update process temporarily, they just pop up and again and again, repeatably failing. Apps download with no problems though, I don't know why updates keep failing.

Agree. Was with a couple of friends a few days ago. We just wanted to play, but the update kept appearing, and the wifi connection was really bad, so it took a long time with a lot of errors.

even though updates are not compulsory it is recommended that they are applied as they contain fixes and improvements to the system. Also the ODK may require an up to date system to function, i.e the ODK may contain new functions that only an up to date system firmware can handle much like the Sony PSP some games require an upto date firmware to operate.

Its totally understandable as to why they are needed. I just wish I had an option to disable them temporarily.

I'd even prefer a nag screen telling me there's a new update every time I boot the system rather than forcing me into it, right when Im in the middle of doing something else.

As of right now Im still unable to use my OUYA online because the update never finishes, it just instantly fails everytime...
I think I know what the culprit is (I have apps downloading and queued in the background) but there is no way to cancel them, as I keep getting interrupted by this update process :/

ahhh i see, much like my Nexus 7 gives a system notification and tells me that a system update is ready to be downloaded and installed. So yeah a pop up or even a notification pop up at bottom of screen to notify the user of a system update much like how the Xbox 360 gets notification at bottom middle of screen.

If I knew this latest firmware update didn't fix the issues from previous updates I would not have updated. I like to take a wait and see approach when it comes to any update.
