What is the recommended resolution to work in?

Hello, I'm taking a break from my main programming project, and I'm making my game for 7dRTS on the Ouya. Before I get started though, I wanted to know what the recommended resolution is to make the game look its best on all televisions. Should I make the game's resolution 720p or 1020p? Granted, it doesn't really matter as much considering the game will probably be pixel art, but the knowledge will be very important for my future projects.

The OUYA is going to scale to the native resolution of your TV/Monitor no matter what you set your Framebuffer's resolution to.

Given that, choosing the resolution of your Framebuffer boils down to performance and artistic tradeoffs. The only thing I would recommend is that you stick to the 1080p aspect ratio, i.e. 1920/1080 = 1.7777 recurring.

I think it's 1080p HD resolution, 1920×1080, but anyone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Ah, okay. I'll try to target 1080p. Thank you.

Do some research on existing games and you will see they will not run at 1080p most of the time!

Depends on your game. If it runs fine at 1080p, then 1080p will work just fine ofc.
However, if your game is fillrate heavy (lots of transparent effects) then 1080p will be very laggy, and you'll want to go down to 720p or even as low as 600p
You didn't remember the plot of the Doctor Who movie because there was none; Just a bunch of plot holes strung together.
