NFC!

I was just thinking this could be a great addition to the OUYA. For example while playing a game you can use it like a WiiU gamepad. Just simply tap the OUYA to the controller and BAM you have a mini map! Or for FPS's you can create a class or change it in game like Battlefield. I think this could be an outstanding addition it is low power and low cost.

It's unlikely that any physical hardware changes will occur in the next few months before launch.

What i meant when i said "Just simply tap the OUYA to the controller" was tap it using an NFC phone or tablet and you can use it as a second screen

ik it's unlikely but it would still be a great addition if they dont implement it i will simply just add an NFC tag's to my controller from the inside, and also to the inside of my OUYA console and develop a dual screen companion.

I've heard rumors about pairing phones via bluetooth. BAM! as many screens as you want.

It's funny .. I got excited when I found a reference to an NFC library in the ODK sample code (import android.nfc.Tag in ControllerTestActivity.java). I even scanned the device and controller for NFC tags with my phone :) But I'm pretty sure it's just an unused line of code that was accidentally added by mistake (Eclipse has a habit of doing that with Java import statements).

Well I think its a great idea and should be added because it can be of great use.

I was thinking about this for a while and while I like NFC for a lot of things I don't think it would pay off for OUYA.

NFCs use in OUYA would likely be for easier BlueTooth pairing. In typical use, the console is near the TV and the players are not. The controllers are handheld so they wouldn't be that reliable to keep something close enough to. Maybe I'm missing a use you guys have in mind, but it seems like a feature for features sake.

and finish... why NFC for this? you don't need any advanced security system or low power consumption to make the connection between console and gadgets.

the issue may be the ergonomics of it.. the ouya joystick's wasn't designed for a screen, how adapt a huge numbers of gadgets with different sizes and shape without sacrifice comfort? that's a huge challenge..
