As a dev, (or aspiring dev ) which games/devs do you (will you) draw inspiration from?

For me it would have to be a lot of the Sega games. Zillion has always been one of my favorite games, Shinobi, Streets of Rage, Thunder Force and the like. A couple of months ago I also had the chance to play Monster World 4 and was very impressed with it. Newer Sega games like Jet Set Future I also sort of liked as well as Time Stalkers. So for me I guess it would be Sega.

I grew up playing (mostly strategy) games on PC. Things like Homeworld, Civ, Transport Tycoon, Total War and Half-Life. Trouble is, most don't translate well to a console controller

I also try to draw inspiration from outside the world of video games. It's too easy to get wrapped up in your favourites / classic games and forget sometimes you've got to cut your own path

I draw alot of inspiration from different, modern indie games. Sometimes I even visit websites like armorgames/kongregate to draw some inspiration.

I agree with spoonthumb tho that you should be careful about looking too much on others. Going for a walk in the woods or mountains are great sources for inspiration as well! :D

I made the OUYA exclusive games Cube and Creature and Hellworm!

Yeah I suppose that sometimes television, movies, books, other video games and other pieces of art previously done by someone else used as inspiration really doesn't make things as unique as they should be. But I guess inspiration can be drawn from anything. Even food.
