How do updates work?

I just received my backer OUYA and I wonder how updates do work? There is no button, no update check. Does it work automatically?

And also - do OUYA support some kind of delta-updates? Because for example The Ball game is 700 MB and the game really needs an update (swap Y axis :-) but I wonder if re-downloading 700 MB is right form.

Thanks!

You mean for system updates?  System updates are automatic, but there's also a menu option in the settings menu to manually check for updates.  Game updates aren't implemented in the firmware yet, right now the only "official" way to update a game is to discover for yourself that a game has an update, then manually delete the game (and any existing save data) and redownload the entire thing.  An unofficial alternative is to side-load the game's updated APK - using adb -r to install it or downloading it from the Android web browser will do an overwriting install, keeping all the save data.

I'm trying to get everyone to use my updater app until ouya officially implements a way to update without losing data, you can check it out here:

The new firmware shows a little icon if an update is available. Not sure how to do updates other than deleting the game and installing the new version though.

I have some games installed, and after the latest firmware update, saw a download icon over one of the games in the "PLAY" view. I just selected the game and pressed O to start the download, and the new firmware installs the update automatically after the download finishes. Fully functional if you ask me.

Just in case - updating has been improved in the latest update - this is irrelevant now.
