Retail coming up and some polishing is needed to push consoles to the casual crowd!

At the end of the day the Ouya is a going to be a retail video game console and consumers want to buy the final retail polished version of the game...not a beta. They wont understand the need to continue to grow. Navigation through the games needs to better to make it easier for the consumer to get what they want, web browser and steaming app needs its own catorgory on the OS main screen and some orangizaitonal features for the games downloaded and a way to at least customize the GUI background....For a console made to be tinker with this should be basic. I want a pic of my family or nice setting in the background...not an Orange screen...it screams beta. Also a way to track our concurrt downloads would be nice. And also a way to make the WIFI alot better. its way to slow for a console of this nature where no physical media is being used. This weak WIFI feature is borderline inexcuseable. And also the off screen web broswer and GUI needs to be fixed as well. Think of the consumer base not the developer base....

I disagree with the lack of a customizable background screaming "beta", if that's the case then the Xbox 360, PS3, Wii and Wii U are all in beta.  A customizable background might be fun, but it definitely should be considered very, very low priority.  I'd much rather have features like game updates or better store organization than customizable backgrounds.

And no, they shouldn't make that default Android web browser easier to get at, that is an advanced feature that isn't really designed for controller use, nor is it "title safe" for TV sets with overscan.  It'd be better for someone to make a real OUYA web browser and submit it to the store, or at least to port one like Opera.

My big concern for the entire console has always been around the idea that the Ouya is "A console by developers, for developers". Many of the decisions seem to be weighted towards developer friendly; leaving consumer convenience as... well not even second.

However, who knows what's in the line for the GUI. Maybe there are hundreds of tweaks for a better system just around the corner.
Question the paradigm you believe in

that saying scares me a bit because a console is supose to be the input for the consumer to expierence the developer's product...if it for developers then it more or less be a program to program.....plus consoles like nintendo and microsoft are already establish and offer conumer friendly GUI's and you can change (Wii channels) and the PS3 you can actually change the background itself. so there is some customization already in this gen on technology from 2006 with much lower RAM. Ps3 256mb compare to Ouya 1gig. You dont make money by selling to developers nor do developers make money by selling to themselves...the consumers is the end game here...or they should be.

There is an awful lot to be done on the user interface and functionality. It isn't terrible for a beta but the whole thing needs an overhaul going forward. Yes, there are current generation consoles that offer a tighter more complete experience, though we can appreciate the time and R&D money they had to spend.

Judging by the hiring OUYA are looking to do, I'm sure they realise they have a lot of work to do, and somewhere between the $8.5m (Kickstarter) and the $15m (VC) that has been raised for the platform, you would hope they are putting good money into aspects such as the GUI, tools and OS customisation.

I'll take this opportunity again like another thread to say the browser needs to be gutted and revolutionised to something modern. I'm not a fan of the PS3 browser yet its easier to use and more functional than what OUYA has and this is an Android console!
