Hi, I kind of heard about the ouya a little too late.. okay very late but as they say better late then never.
Anyway I was wondering 'what kind of game should I make?' So I decided to ask this amazing consoles community what I should do.

Cheers, LizardBoy1999
P.S. Since I heard about it so late I do not have an ouya dev console, but I will get an ouya as soon as it releases.

Hi! (and welcome). I am also a new developer, so I am not sure about the real value of my opinion, but here go my two cents: If you are breand new to developing altogether, I would recomend to first pick a visual, easy-to-master tool like GameMaker: Studio by Yoyogames. I believe this community has already a full working patch for OUYA compatibility (http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=570978). Another good option on the visual side is Unity3D. I've only hear good things about it and, although it requires a bit more of programming experience (the basics of which can be learnt in not too long a time), it's officially supported by OUYA and the ODK has an extension for it (https://devs.ouya.tv/developers/docs/unity). Anyway, If you are feeling brave or want to learn programming in the proccess of game developing, there are plenty of tools out there, my favourite being the killer combo Eclipse+Java+AndroidSDK+AndEngine. If you are new to programming, my recomendations on the game type are simple: Make a small game. Small as in "a ball that bounces and you have to catch it" kind of game. It has to be described in a sentence. Probably you will not have a product worth publishing, but you will have proven yourself that you can develop something that works. And that feels awesome. If you are lost and don't know where to start, I'd reccomend copying an existing simple game. Now, if you are already an experienced game developer, and are just asking for advice on what tipe of game you should make... Honestly, follow your gut. What is the game you would like to play but has never been built? If you can picture it, I say develop it. If you enjoy what you are building, you will most likely finish it (if your dream game is not something like "medieval FPS with 190 different weapons and 20.000polys per character", in which case...maybe you'll need some help :) Wow, that was a long response, I hope some of it made sense. If you want to talk about this matter more in-depth, you can contact me at [email protected] Borja P.S.: I don't have an OUYA either, I'm very much looking forward to it :)

I am very new to programming, and I am only 14 (There was nothing in the terms of use that I had to be 18 or any age for that matter.), but don't judge me I have an IQ of over 180. Anyways I am on a windows 8 and I am using unity but I can't seem to get the ODK ouya-launcher to work, should I use my dad's windows 7, and if so how to I get the coding from the odk (to get the game running and the controller working.) into unity?

Thanks for helping the first time,  LizardBoy1999

On these forums, not a lot of judging is done ;). We're all about making games! It's great you want to make games, I personally started making them when I was 12, using GameMaker. For Unity specific questions I have to direct you to the Unity subforums, they can surely help you out right there!

Thanks, but now I am looking for other options to make my game on. The game I want to make is a side-scroller game, could anyone point me in a certain direction.

    Cheers, LizardBoy1999

P.S. could you give me a complete start up program that includes the controller start up and sync program in order please (mainly because the odk instructions are so vague on how to put it in order.)
