Possible to install .apk on a retail Ouya?

Game Maker still doesn't have proper Ouya export (though it is promised).  In the meantime, can one install from an .apk like any other Android device?  Meaning, out of the box install .apks.  I don't want to be forced to install a plain vanilla Android on the Ouya just to test games.  It'd be a pain to switch back and forth.

    Yup, in fact that's how Unity does it, it uses adb to install apk's.  Side loading works.
