Launch Day Hype

Well, I for one agree with this article about the Wii U:
http://systemwarsmagazine.com/2012/11/18/report-wii-u-most-boring-launch-in-history/

Seems like even the big names are getting bored with their own new consoles!  So bored they can't pretend to be excited with a good marketing campaign, or make the Wii U distinct from the Wii.  Could this be a sign that the establishment is becoming stale from the inside out?

(I should mention on a side note, I look forward to the PS4 with actual anticipation solely because it has been trumpeted as developer-friendly far and wide...)

Anyway, wouldn't it be great if OUYA could have launch-day lines, even campers?

What could create that kind of excitement for OUYA?  Besides the obvious ... (software)

I would love to see this be gaming's next big thing.

    Three points

    1. The WhyU was a poorly executed system. It was merely itterative with one step forward 2 steps back. I just couldn't get excited for the WiiU. Yet I was excited for the Wii and was the only console that I ever got in line for. I still love my Wii, but the U just..... it's an updated Wii to play PS360, with an inferior controller with a TS shoved into the centre. WiiU was not a mass market product. So yeah. boring. Still don't have one. I'm looking for MH4, but 1 game isn't a reason to buy the system.

    2. The blog and site seem to be biased. Feels like upstream weighing familiar value only on upstream values. Not really a sign of positive stimuli or interest.

    3. Ouya won't create any mass market appeal. It's only captured the love of the indie developer. in a decade of observing a handful of markets. The indie scenes doesn't and hasn't defined success :( If the Ouya wanted to create the hype for mass market.

    A. create a more immersive way to interact with gaming as a primary model of control.

They could have done something to be more interesting that what they did. Would have created buzz, sparked imagination.

    B. Focus on marketing to more than just indie and developers. Ouya hasn't even bothered to appeal to the 13 to 24 crowd wich is comon for the big 3.

    C. Focus on moms playing with there young kids. Cannot express that Disney hammers home success. get the young kids. Sure they aren't big fans during the teen years, but when they are adults they are once again buying Disney again... for their kids. This is the same as the Pokemon phenonom.

Boxer 8 didn't do anything but sell an ideal. It's a fantastic ideal, but not one that's going to spread to a mass market. If Boxer 8 does well it might compete against the Roku or Apple TV, but won't really explode onto the scene.
Question the paradigm you believe in

Yeah unfortunately, it seems like the OUYA launch is going to be a bunch of press from the tech and gaming media (the readership of which have already long ago heard of the OUYA and made up their minds about it), and clueless shop assistants putting the boxes on a shelf in the stores.

I'm somewhat resigned to OUYA being a slow burner, that at least in terms of mass market appeal, builds from a grassroots niche audience. It will also take some stand out titles to come along, and again that takes a little time (especially when talking about indie developers).

However, I'm not sure that will actually matter, as I think the OUYA has potential for things like in-store events, meet the game developers and building awareness through things other than big glitzy press conferences, billboards and tv adverts

Yeah, I guess slow buildup sounds like the most realistic road for OUYA.  They just don't have the financial muscle to compete on the level of PS360Weeaboo.
