OUYA now accepting actual game submissions!

PiersPiers Posts: 680Member
Hi everyone!  We are now accepting real game submissions, and have been for a couple of weeks now.  We realized that the messaging in the Developer Portal suggested we were not, but this messaging was incorrect.  So if anyone was waiting to submit, wait no longer!  Any questions about submissions just ask!

I uploaded my first game (Chomper Deluxe) a few days ago - the APK verification process seemed to take quite a while (~8-12 hours?), but after that I submitted it for review, and today it was approved !
Overall the process was quite smooth and painless. It's all showing up correctly under the Builds section on my OUYA too. Getting very excited to see the store go live now :)

Just a quick note - the URL in the 'Congratulations your game was approved' email is wrong (https://developers.ouya.tv/developers/games doesn't exist, it probably should be https://devs.ouya.tv/developers/games). Also the game icon image at https://devs.ouya.tv/developers/game_versions/0x1-some-zany-hex-id-0x1 points to a missing image at the moment (https://devs.ouya.tv/developers/game_versions/ouya_icon.png).

Some feedback on Uploading game. It would be nice to be able to edit the metadata without having to reupload an entire new version.

Things I like to do on other markets:

    - Change price
    - Update Description
    - Add Screenshots
    - Add keywords
    - Choose category for game

Hope this helps! Keep up the hard work! Its looking good!

The price actually can be edited in the fly, since the Products are separate from the Games. But of course you can't announce a sale in the game description right now or change the game's store image to put an "On Sale" banner on it  without submitting a new copy of the game.  Though if you wanted to you could probably do a new submission and speed up the review time by putting in the reviewer notes that nothing in the game binary has changed.

let's say the game is approved and we'd need to update it, would the update need to go trough the entire review process again ?

I assume so, that's how Apple works.  Make sure people aren't submitting one game and then updating it to be something else, or make sure someone doesn't submit a children's game and then update it with malware.

Regarding APK validation....a couple times now we had an error, but also note the page doesn't dynamically update so after a few minutes refresh the page :)

+1 for @VoodooDoubloon 's suggestions - I made a speeling error in my description which I'd like to fix without having upload a new version.

What's the game and error?  We can fix that.  Eventually we should have a better method for allowing minor edits, but not there yet.

@Piers - I made an error in my description as well. JSIDD Code Factory O. It should say "Hint: Pay attention to how the pc (white square) is fed to get the actual order right!" instead of "Hint: Pay attention to how the pc (white square is feed) to get the actual order right!" Appreciate the help :)

@JSIDD - fixed.  OMG not fixed, let us know what the error is.

Hey all, where do I go to learn how to include/upload the small rectangular 'icon' image for my game (how it will appear in the OUYA menus)? Apologies if I missed something obvious -

I note that Ouya is now Fund-matching Games via Kickstarter... I'm going with Indiegogo, ALMOST unfortunately. However, I'd like to Submit a Game Development Proposal to Ouya Staff anyway... Any proper means of doing this that won't get anyone annoyed or get the Door of Opportunity slammed in my face?
