I was going to order an OUYA console and a 2nd controller last week for a $130 + $10 shipping for a $140 total cost. I decided to wait until this weekend and immediately noticed the controller had gone up $20. I thought, oh well, it looks like shipping is now free (there was no separate line item anymore). When I went to place my order it then added an additional $16 for ground shipping, for a net increase of $26 from the price last week. For the price to go up $26 on a pre-order console that does not even exist in its final form yet is really annoying. At this point I am just going to wait until June and purchase from Best Buy or Amazon.com which have free shipping and a corporate 30-day return policy. Sorry OUYA, you just lost a direct sale from me, but I guess with 8 million of Kickstarter cash, you won't really care.

It seems obvious to me that they were giving early preorders a good deal, and were estimating what everything would cost. And when they actually got the real manufacturing and shipping costs, they were higher than what was expected. So now they charge $50 for the controllers and charge the actual shipping cost rather than a flat fee for the entire US. This is why they posted on their twitter and facebook pages that the early preorders were almost sold out and to get your order in quickly.
Unfortunately, this info doesn't help you at all, but note that you don't have to wait until June, you could preorder from Amazon or Best Buy right now:
