Hello everyone. My name is Olivier Giguère-Durand, I'm 28 and live in Canada.
As far as I could tell, there isn't currently a discussion thread for the Create game jam ( http://killscreendaily.com/create/ ), so I decided to open on and see how you guys felt about it. Anyone wants to bounce idea, to create a team, need tester or the like? I'd say here's the place.
As for me, I'm looking for a team. I have a project based on mazes if I end up doing it alone, but I doubt it has the caliber needed for this competition. But then again, who knows? Maybe with the right team... Looking forward to hearing from you guys!
I'll be participating... I assume that we can use games that are already in the making, but not yet publicly released (like the site says no kickstarter, etc.). This is exactly the push I needed to get a prototype fully done by the end of the month. :)
Aggro Tactics - A tactical strategy virtual board game built with Unity3D 4.0, designed around the concept of Threat/Aggro inspired by the mechanics of chess and a customizable party like in table top games.
I've already started an Open Source project for an ORPG if anyone is interested in helping on a prototype push for Create.
It's based on libGDX, planning to make it adaptable so other devs/designers can reuse it for unique games. However, for a prototype push will probably merge game dynamics with engine mechanics to get something playable.
PM me if you're interested for Create, or long term build.

This is actually something I'd like clarified before I jump in head first. This is a game jam, the idea is what can you create in 10 days. Its really not fair if people with almost complete games that are unreleased can enter. I don't know how they would enforce or determine that since there is no theme to abide by (how most game jams control this). Any OUYA Team members reading this?
Not singling you out there GP, you are right, the rules as stated are loose enough that pre-existing games that are unreleased could be entered in this competition. Seeing what some people already have running on their OUYAs in this folder is pretty intimidating for creating something that could compete in 10 days.
We'll publish the formal contest rules just before January 14 when CREATE officially begins (though you are welcome to start working immediately).
This insinuates that it can be a work in progress. We'd love to do a game jam but there's no way we can stop work on our title for 10 days to make a random game this close to release.
No, it says you can start working immediately, IOW you could have had a total of 17 days to work on it if you had started on monday when it was announced. However, 17 days vs a project that has been in development for X number of months or years isn't exactly fair.
Having now found a team and picked a project, it is going to suck if we're against a whole team who have been working for months
I'm hoping it will be fairly obvious where that is the case, and judges will take into account the time different teams have been working on their projects
Well I hope they don't set a fixed theme, I'd really like to have no constraints around that.
But it's a valid concern that people might enter games that have been worked on for months.
However I think that's all the more reason to both:
A- Try to think outside the box for this and create gameplay/art/audio/etc that's so interesting and different that it can't be eclipsed by a bigger or flashier game. For example, Canabalt looked and felt SO different from anything else that no RPG with 24 months in development could have eclipsed how interesting it was.
B- Create a very small but very polished playable prototype as they said, instead of trying to create a the whole game during those 10 days and ending up with crappy assets or just a cheap feel to it.
I'm really excited to see what everyone comes up with, though!! =)
Chime in if you also think this is an important issue so OUYA knows they need to, at the very least, clarify this.
I really don't understand why they'd think it's alright to announce a 10-day game jam with $45k in prizes, then make a little note in the fine print that you can find if you're careful and then realize you can get a 7-day headstart on anyone foolish enough to think "10 days" means "10 days".
I really want to work on this and I am looking for a programmer to help build a prototype. I'll be doing art, UI and backgrounds, while my bro will be doing pixel art and animation :3.
Unity or something else would be ideal since neither me or my bro have a capable android device and this needs to be developed quickly.
I am also confused. After reading the fine print, I was under the impression that as long as it hasn't be published or on kickstarter it was fair game. I thought the 10 days was just the submission period and the term "game jam" just used rather loosely.
See the other thread or the new FAQ section added to the CREATE rules page, it has been clarified...
Can I submit a game I've already worked on, as long as it hasn't been released anywhere else?
No. In order to level the playing field, we are only accepting new work having been created between the initial CREATE announcement on January 7th and the end of the jam on January 23rd. If you're already working on a game for OUYA, perhaps try a new variation, or different take on the same theme! If you win a prize, you will be required to legally verify that this is true, so please be honest!
