Still can't connect PS3 Controller to OUYA?

Hi all,

I'm new to the OUYA and this is my first post here. After a long amount of time looking up tutorials, I came to the conclusion that most others don't have this problem while connecting their PS3 Controller

The general understanding of the process is:

  1. Plug in PS3 controller through USB
  2. This will turn off Bluetooth (disabling the OUYA controller) and allow PS3 Controller to work while wired
  3. Hold power button on OUYA till turned off
  4. Remove USB Cable completely
  5. Power on OUYA  > Power on PS3 Controller > Power on OUYA Controller
  6. Done.
I've attempted many variations of this, but connecting the PS3 controller via USB will leave it working for only 3-5 seconds before immediately turning off or stopping to work altogether. Restarting the console doesn't allow it to work either.

Any help is appreciated,

DM.

PS: To those wondering, it is a legit Sony controller.

I believe one step missing from this is un-pairing your PS3 remote from your PS3 or whatever else it might be paired to.

To do this, hold down the (unplugged) controller's Playstation button for a number of seconds until you see blinky lights on the remote. then start at step 1. At least that's what I did along with the rest of your steps and that worked for me.

It also threw me for a loop that not all types of remotes work in all games. But at least the ouya menu should work and you should see the player 1 light on your PS3 remote.

    This worked for me: http://ouyaforum.com/showthread.php?2752-How-to-Pair-a-PS3-Controller-with-OUYA

You don't need to disable bluetooth. You just plug the PS3 controller in via USB, make sure it is working, completely power down the OUYA, unplug the PS3 controller, and when you turn the OUYA back on, you can connect / pair the PS3 controller wirelessly by holding down the system/home button

I has similar difficulty following those steps. The PS3 controller paired over USB, but after I powered down and unplugged it from USB, neither controller could be paired. I freaked out a bit a first, but I could still use the system by plugging in the PS3 controller via USB. I found that simply re-starting the process (after another hard reboot) exactly as described, but this time starting from the Controller menu, did the trick.

That said, I could have just done it wrong the first time. :-)

In any case, be sure to completely power down your OUYA (don't use the Y shutdown option), and do not unplug your PS3 controller until after you've turned off your OUYA.
