Rooting and OUYA Store access

Back during the kickstarter campaign, Julie Uhrman said during an audio podcast interview that rooting the OUYA would then cause that OUYA to lose access to the store and services.  Has anyone run into this?

Also, I am interested in taking a few apps that I bought on Google Play and side-loading them to the OUYA (PocketCasts and TuneIn Radio specifically).  What is the best way to get those purchased Apps from the Google Play store if I do not have an Android device (the one I DID have that I bought the apps on bricked a few months after I bought it off of it, it was a media-player much like an iPod Touch, so it wasnt a phone or tablet).  I have been unable to download apps to a Virtual Machine install of Android (using Sun's VirtualBox software on my PC).

adbing into the system is a touch complex (you basically have to add a line to and then reinstall the driver), but it's mroe than possible to do so, and then sideload a superuser prompt and whatever android apps you have. wether they actually work on the device is another matter, but the apps you mentioned should be perfectly fine.

btw, Uhrman pretty much lied there, you can install an su prompt and you don't lose access to the store at all.

perhaps it was wishful thinking on her part that never came to light.

now then, the second question.  has anyone been able to remove the OUYA software completely and install standard Android on the device?
