I have installed XBMC on my ouya and set it up and it is working really well.
The only annoying thing is going through menus to launch xbmc.

What would be really great is to be able to replace the Home screen like you can with the normal home screen. Of course with the ability to directly launch activities for the ouya store, settings and everything else.

This way I can have my stylish home screen that incorporates Movies,TV shows, music and everything else XBMC offers. Obviously some modifications for store and app launcher would need to be added to xbmc.

Note: when setting up xbmc plug in a keyboard first as you will need it for typing. The built in visual keypad does not work with dpad and seems to quit randomly when using touch-pad. Also when plugging in or removing a device it closes everything and goes to the system screen. Really frustrating.

Everything runs fine, but I can't seem to connect the Ouya to the internet with either wifi or ethernet. I've entered the password for my wifi, and in the list of networks, it shows that the password is saved, but when I click "Connect", the dialog goes away, and nothing happens. It never seems to connect. Worse, the Ouya is connected via an ethernet cable, and the router shows the connection, but the Ouya still says there is no internet connection.

Any ideas for what's going wrong here?

Hello Everyone,

We've just been playing with our Dev kit and really enjoying it. Our upcoming Android game, Mega Run, seems to be running nicely. Unfortunately, we have yet to map any buttons to the physical buttons. We can poke around and play a bit with the built in touch pad, but obviously this is not a great solution. I believe that there is a opportunity for a system level button mapping system. This would open the device up for games that have not been designed specifically for Ouya and could really help buff out the ecosystem on the console.

The Archos GamePad already has something like this, looks like a good feature for the future.

What are your thoughts on this?

When does the one year start?

If we aren't ready to publish our game by the time OUYA ships to the gamers does that affect our promotion time? Or will it be one year from the time we publish the game?

What happens if you publish another game within that first year? Does it also get promoted alongside your first game? Or can we switch the remaining promotion time to the new game? (e.g. promote Game A for six months and then promote Game B for the remaining six months).

For the 3rd time i made sure no other menus or apps were open and watched it the whole way through - nudging the joystick every few seconds to make sure even those wouldn't turn off (mine go off after ~30 seconds of no use) and after 3rd download it changed that bar to an install option instead of download.

Lots of excitement this evening as I unboxed my OUYA

My web site: http://thesuese.com

OUYA Console Hardware:
- Worked perfectly.
- I like that it is relatively heavy.
- It sits nicely on the desk.
- Cables were a bit stiff, made the connections fall out when moving the console around.

OUYA Software:
- I was so surprised and very impressed to see a user interface and fully functioning OS out-of-the-box.
- I upgraded the firmware and the upgrade worked perfectly.
- Really smooth and high detail in 1080p
- Web browser works great

The Gamepad
- CRITICAL: Cannot remove batteries without a knife.
- The D-pad is awesome.
- The spring in the rear trigger is not very fluid. Makes it feel a bit hokey.
- The shape is something I'm not used to, I have small hands. I'm not used to holding it so high up, but holding it that high helps give access to the touch pad.
- The touch pad leaves a little to be desired. Not that I really care much for the feature in the first place.
- Could be a tad heavier towards the top. Centre of gravity was a little bit different for me.

Some bugs:
- I did upgrade the firmware.
- Experienced some synchronization glitches, had to press a second button after initial sync pre-firmware update.
- Flickering during on screen keyboard post-firmware update.
- Couldn't use directional pad for on screen keyboard. Made inputing password a bit weird.
- Touch pad cursor was really slow, taps weren't always registering.
- Crash on shut-down, won't shut down. Pressed power button, selected shut down on gamepad. Still animating 'shutting down' 20 minutes later. 7-second shut-off worked fine.
- Experienced a java error pop-up where the log-in prompt failed in an attempt to connect over a choppy wifi connection.
- No error message on log-in screen (no password).

Overall:
I'm impressed. Lots of people expressed scepticism this would even get this far. I'm floored and amazed the product has come so far in so little time.

I'll upload some videos of the unboxing session soon, but first I'm going to push some polygons through this baby.

Hey guys one thing I learned from watching the app store, google play and greenlight is you need some way of screening the apps, you need look no further than greenlight where they were uploading joke games but with the $100 fee it seemed to cut down on the crap app. This will be better for the consumer and even the indie developer because the quality of apps will be slightly higher it will mean that people will be more willing to "try to discover" new games rather than only relying on the top-charts.

http://www.joystiq.com/2012/09/04/steam-greenlight-now-requires-100-fee-which-goes-to-childs-pl/

Looking for ideas on how to monitize some games

I'm trying to figure out way of monitizing some different kinds of games on the OUYA platform. I'd love to hear what other devs are thinking.

*** How would you go about monitizing games like Solitaire or Chess (where you play a single, self-contained game each session) in the OUYA world?

- Maybe you can play 3 games total or maybe 1 game per day, before needing to pay to unlock unlimited plays? How do you think players would respond to that?

- Maybe you can pay to unlock different card backs, backgrounds, themed boards, etc? Do you think that would be enough incentive to get people to pay?

*** What about classic arcade games like Space Invaders or Pac Man (where you play many, similar levels over and over as long as you can) in the OUYA world?

- Again, play for 3 games total or some set ammount of time before needing to pay to unlock unlimited plays?

What about buying virtual coins at say 100 virtual coins for $0.99 where playing a game costs you a virtual coin? Maybe you start with 10 free virtual coins when you download the game. Would that be allowed by OUYA standards, and how do you think players would respond?

If anyone can point out existing discussions about this (on this or other discussion boards), that would be great.

I'd love to hear your thoughts!

P.S. These are just examples of a couple classes of games that I'm trying to figure out how to best monitize.

Without further ado, heres the link:

kickstarter.com/projects/slipspacestudios/slipspace

SlipSpace is a 3D top-down space shooter with a whole bunch of genre expanding features. We have a very large cross platform multiplayer system planned for the game, the beginnings of which you can witness for your self in our first dev diary video, the same on as on the kickstarter page. Since we pre-ordered our own Ouya console, we had planned to produce SlipSpace for the Ouya as well, there's nothing better for a games developer, in my mind, than to play your game with a controller on a big screen. : )

Anyways, please check us out for more information and maybe pledge a few pounds towards reaching our goal! We only have 10 days left as of writing this and comparatively a small goal to reach, so please help tip us over the edge!

PS: Here's an in-game shop concept image from our latest kick update!
