Hello everyone

Firstly, i'd love OUYA to have a Internet Browser, to some this may sound silly, because thats what you have a computer for, right, well as the OUYA will be going in to my TV, i'd like to see web pages on my TV, where as on a computer, they appear on your computers monitor,

Plugin support is a must for any Browser, I'd love to see Adobe Flash Player support, yes it's dying out, but still webpages are sticking with it, so we need a browser which will support flash content, like youtube.com, and cnettv.cnet.com

Thats not just it, the OUYA team, if they choose to bring a Browser to the OUYA, need to think about the future, HTML5 is said to replace flash content one day, so support for HTML5, would make OUYA's Internet Browser, almost future proof!

Anyone else want to watch youtube and surf the web on there tv, using there OUYA console ?

I often find myself writing sentences like "OUYA is running a contest for OUYA games." See what I mean? ;)

I'd like to start referring to the company as "Boxer8"... but, I don't really know what Boxer8 is, or if it even still exists. It would might be confusing to the users, since the OUYA company itself, and most others, usually talk about "Boxer8".

So, can we get an official response about what Boxer8 is, and how you'd prefer we refer to the company?

The way everything is worded for this CREATE contest is very confusing. On the one hand, they say this, which sounds pretty straight-forward:

To celebrate the release of the OUYA Developer Console, we are hosting a 10-day online game jam we're calling CREATE. What is a game jam, you ask? It's a focused get-together where teams make playable games insanely quickly. Your mind will be blown at what a game team can do in 10 days.

This fits with what the normal idea of what a game jam is. Lots of free-flowing creation, openness of ideas, etc.

But then they say other things that seem to run completely counter to that:

From January 14 to January 23, we will be accepting playable prototype submissions right here.

They could have easily said "from the 14th-23rd you can start working on your game", but instead, they just said that's when they'll start accepting submissions. It... seems odd. But it makes sense if they're expecting people to submit games they've already been working on for a long time.

They do actually directly address whether your game has to be new or not, however:

To enter, you'll need to confirm [...] that it's a new game (not already released somewhere else, or raising money on Kickstarter)

So, again, completely mixed signals. They say that it has to be a new game, but when they explain what that means, they still completely leave the door open for any pre-existing game, just so long as it has yet to be released or on Kickstarter.

Afterwards, they directly say that they don't plan to take the whole "10-day game jam" thing seriously at all and you can just start working whenever. This was 7 days before the contest officially started.

We'll publish the formal contest rules just before January 14 when CREATE officially begins (though you are welcome to start working immediately).

So, at the very least, it's fine to take 17 days to work on your entry if you're a dev that carefully read through the "GOTCHAS" section instead of just assuming "10 day game jam" means "10 day game jam". (that's not a smart remark from me, the url is http://killscreendaily.com/create/#gotchas) I feel like that's tremendously unfair to any developer that tries to actually follow the spirit of the competition and create a game in 10 days.

I know that you guys have said that you're going to more clearly explain the rules once the competition starts. But I don't really think that's the best path to take. Not when it's something so basic as "do we have to make a new game, or can we use something we've been working on for months or years?" Not when it's a contest with a massive cash prize on the line.

You need to tell people what the contest is before it starts, not after. People have been asking on twitter with no response so far. Can we get some clarity, here?

While I know this will not change as it has all has been promised, but I do not like the touch-pad.
^^^
Read above.

It is really just used as a mouse pointer. I do not think it could be used usefully in a game. It seems to be used to make up for the fact that android is a touch screen based OS and that a pointer will be need. Which is not really true at all. For one you should be able to navigate without a cursor. Especially if your creating the standard. Also it is faster to move a cursor with a joystick anyway.

It currently is only needed for typing. As it is the only way to select letters & it is so painful to do. More so than any other console I've used.

I would much have preferred an accelerometer. This would allow you to do things like using the remote like a steering while. or other creative uses.

Just felt I needed to say it. What is your take?

I'm sorry if I'm a bit cranky. I've been battling with the Android emulator all evening.

I'm a solo developer who would like to take part in the CREATE compo/jam. Since all finalists get an OUYA dev kit, I'm assuming they expect people without a dev kit to enter. Although I backed the KS, I didn't spring for a dev kit. So, how are those of us without a kit supposed to make anything, let alone compete with those who do have a dev kit? I just think it's a bit unfair.

So far, I've got the emulator up and running with the framework and launcher apks installed. I really don't know where to go from here. I have a Xbox 360 USB controller. Although the docs recommend testing with a Xbox controller on a tablet, they say you can't emulate the controller in the emulator.

So, what? Am I hosed? Or is there something I can do? I figure that without a controller to test with, there's no hope of creating anything worthy for the game jam. I know I have the drive and the passion and the creativity. I just don't have the money for a dev kit or a suitable tablet. What's a dev to do? Is there anyone in my situation who plans on entering the competition?

P.S. Getting a little close to the precipice of ragequit. :(
