While a console does need to be less multi task orientated than a pc. It is still an obvious strength of android.
Even steam allows you to access steam in game and return to it to the game after using it(shift+tab). So you can chat, change settings and even browse online to find the walk-through or world map.

Yet you hit the ouya system button and it takes you....well somewhere. It seems really inconsistent at the moment. Sometimes the home page and sometimes the make page. Is it just an exit button? Because many games I played seem to use it that way. With no other way to exit.

Well and generally navigating is simply screwed. I hit back when discovering games and it takes me all the way to the home screen. When I just wanted to go back to stop viewing the current game and continue to look at other games. Now I need to go back into discovery and start over.

Apps seems to have vanished as far as I can tell. Which I though was a really cool thing that apps would be encouraged.

also it is weird that the sandbox does not have genres or any good search features. Same that notifications are put in the manage folder. When it is really something you want to be made aware of and easy to see. Rather than having to remember to just keep checking it all the time.

I know the "they are still working on it" argument will come up, but this is considered launch right now is it not?

I think they really put the launch way to early. Everything is still very very unorganised and buggy.

For most android 4.2 devices you just press the volume rocker and the power button at the same time. Maybe a good workaround would be to press down on the left analog stick at the same time as pressing down the power button on the controller. It is such a small feature but I think it can help the community immensely, especially when friend lists are added. Sharing content has always been a huge thing with gamers.

I've been reading on various forums of gamers concerned that apps/games could create purchases on a credit card without user consent. Is this true? Can anyone describe the process?
2. For instance, when you click 'buy' to purchase something in a game currently, it shows you the price and confirm button.
You have to hit yes before it charges you. Is there way an app could apply a purchase to your credit card without user input?
3. Why does the Ouya require a credit card to download games? What's the actual reason?
4. Is there any way to not require this?

Thanks. I'd like to explain this better to other people but I'm not confident currently in the system either. I want to be confident and understand it, but I feel there's still some misinformation going about.

I expect that what I'm asking about will be implemented at some point, however I was curious if there was any way to do the following under present conditions:

I have a game I've been developing for a couple years in Unity 3.x. I feel like it's about done, however I would like to start a Kickstarter to be able to raise the funds to upgrade to 4.x Pro + get the Android plugin to port the game to OUYA (the game was developed with a Xbox 360/Playstation 3-type controller in mind, so I couldn't be happier). The full game (OUYA version; which will have inter-interoperability with PC players if a balance can be found) will be free to all, however I wanted to provide an incentive for people to pledge for the upgrades; something along the lines of "Get access to the game 1 month before the general public!".

Edit: Is this currently possible? I know codes/keys are already a part of the OUYA marketplace, so would there be a way to secure x number of keys or enable gameplay based on username? Even if it's something wild like the Xbox 360 had with some press titles a while back; you could either redeem a code or pay using a million (or some very large number) Microsoft points to get access to the title. This would be a bit sloppy and I know I would still have to offer some portion or the game for free, however if anyone at OUYA or any fellow developers have come up with a method for a "limited release" please let me know.

If they haven't gotten to the 600s after two days of shipping that means they've shipped out no more than 300/day. At a rate of 300/day it will take 200 days or nearly 7 months to ship out all 60,000 backer consoles.

I'd appreciate some transparency here so that people know what's going on and when we can roughly expect our systems to show up.

Hey, So I've got a new question. I've gone to the sandbox area multiple times to see if anyone else has "Thumbed Up" my games, and it seems that my game has moved spots multiple times. Is this the sandbox rules in action where games that are played often get moved to the front and games that aren't get moved to the back? Are there more games getting approved so they are being tossed in randomly? Do all of the games just change position everyday so you feel like you're not looking at the same old stuff? What's going on?

I'm not happy with the experience users are having with my game on the store, but I'm even less happy with the rejection reasons the OUYA review team have failed my latest version (which addresses most of the things I'm not happy with in the current version). I won't go into the details, but needless to say the "rules" they are following are nothing like the content and review guidelines in the docs which I find unacceptable.

Anyway, back on topic, because of the current issues with my version, and the issues with the review team I want to take my game off the store until it's ironed out with the new version.

Is there a way I can do this?

On Local Multiplayer and Fun!

Hello OUYA people,

One of the most exciting things about this platform is its potential in the local multiplayer space. Some of the most fun gaming experiences I've had, were with friends infront of the TV, and this isn't solely due to the "smack talk" appeal. Local co-op and local competitive play, will with no doubt play an important role in evangelizing the console.

As a developer, I was sold on the democratizing aspects of the store, specifically the potential for ranking based on fun, rather than downloads or revenue. I think this is ahead of the curve and will help ensure that OUYA's ecosystem stays healthy and strong.

So here are my 2 cents. After some light has been shed on how "fun rating" is going to function within the store I started to worry about local multiplayer. Local multiplayer is played in shorter sessions than its single player / story driven counter parts due to the logistics. That being said, I don't think a game enjoyed by 4 people for 2 hours, is less fun than a game enjoyed by 1 person for 3 hours. I would like to see some metrics in the future taking multiple players within a session into account. Further ways of making these metrics robust will only help developers and players and I look forward to seeing it develop.

What do you guys think?

So maybe I'm just super lazy, but I find it annoying that to power down the OUYA I first need to walk over to the TV, press the button on top, then use the gamepad to select "OK".

It would be nice if under the System menu, or somewhere, there was an option "Power off console" so that it could all be done via the gamepad only without walking over to the TV. The shutdown dialog should also warn if there are any ongoing downloads, and maybe offer to power down only once these are complete (a "shutting down once downloads complete" dialog should then stay active on screen until shutdown, or it's dismissed and the future shutdown is aborted).

Alternatively, when the top power button is held for a second, skip showing the "Really shutdown ?" dialog and just start powering down so I don't need to pick up the gamepad to complete the process.

This might seem all very unimportant, but every little bit of polish to improve the overall experience for gamers counts :)
