It would be really useful to be able to limit updates only to paying customers

Three reasons:

1). If you take your console to a mate's house or some place that doesn't have internet, and you've forgotten to update the games you want to play, you're completely stuck at the moment.

2). The free part of the game is a lot less likely to change. Forcing everyone to update every time there is an update might make some people who've downloaded the game to try out later, give up and uninstall the game.

3). Games are evolving from products to services, where the base game is free, but the services like bug fixes, updates and expansions, that are delivered via the internet, are what you're really paying for. Limiting updates to paying customers would for many games negate the need to check purchases in-game

I know this might be a bit off topic since this is the dev forums, but I figured fellow devs might have a better answer than anyone else.

I am planning on doing some streaming while playing the OUYA tonight. The issue I am running into is button lag/latency.

First off, I have setup many streams for Fighting Game Tournaments where button lag cannot exist, so I like to think I kind of know what I am doing .

My Scenarios: Using Canabalt as a test.

1. Plug OUYA directly into my Samsung 1080p HDTV. Game runs fine, jump is responsive as soon as I hit the button.

My stream PC is using a black magic intensity pro. Same rig I used to stream fighting games via xbox 360 and hdmi.

2. Using built in pass through on the black magic, I plug the OUYA into the input, and my TV into the output. Everything works great, xsplit and wirecast see the game screen, as does my tv. Canabalt has a obvious half second button delay from when I hit the button, to when he jumps.

3. Using a HDMI splitter, this is way I used to do it for fighting games. OUYA goes into the input, outputs to my black magic input and my tv input. Game comes up on my TV, same button lag listed above. Game does not display in xsplit, wirecast or blackmagic software. Just shows snow, with the occasional flicker of game screen.

So it seems like whenever the HDMI video is split, the button lag gets really bad. Now this was never an issue with the 360. The splitters are externally powered.

I would love any thoughts on this. Otherwise, I guess I will stream and try to get used to the latency.

Thanks
Ed

1) the picture is cut off, overscan in the android settings seems to change nothing, my TV has no overscan setting for HDMI. Snes9x and other official Ouya store apps show this (eg. in Snes9x it is "ad Game" instead of "Load Game" etc. same on most sideloaded APKs.) Implement an overscan setting like in XBMC, where you adjust the screen so that it is completely visible!

2) Why is bluetooth disabled if I connect a wired controller?!?!?

3) When will you implement resolution selection. (at the moment it upscales to 1080p, and my TV downscales to 720p, also there is a monitor resolution where my TV disables overscan! I just cannot select it, because ouya allways sends 1080 if the TV can show or downscale that

4) Details (U) menu on sideloaded APKs show nonsens (download, and null like and ... as description)

5) attached USB storage should be regarded as the "SDCard" and should be shown in android storage

6) sound gets muted sometimes by itself (you can reenable by going to
android setting, and turn it on again -> but I never turned it off!!)

7) Any news on official XBMC app in ouya store?
So long story short, I had a bum controller shipped to me.

Having filled out the RMA form, I came to a startling and potentially chilling realization:

OUYA Controller serials are labelled on the faceplates and not the controller itself.

This is super dodgy to me. Here are the reasons why:

1.) The OUYA controller itself cannot be tracked. This opens up consumers and OUYA (the company) to a litany of problems):
i.) Consumers may end up getting shipped refurb controllers with new OUYA consoles by simply throwing a new faceplate on the controller. Either deliberately, or unintentional.
ii.) OUYA (the company) cannot actually track and/or destroy/remove problematic controllers from circulation, thus creating a serious logistics problem.
iii.) If consumers are sent refurb controllers with new systems, that is just shady business practices and probably illegal.

2.) FCC/CE markings/declarations cannot be found on the operating portion of the device, which I am sure is required by FCC rules:

"The FCC ID must be permanently marked (etched, engraved, indelibly printed, etc.) either directly on the transmitter, or on a tag that is permanently affixed (riveted, welded, glued, etc.) to it. The FCC ID label must be readily visible to the purchaser at the time of purchase."

Check every electronic device you own. You will find the FCC ID attached to the device itself, most likely under the batteries, but still attached to the device.

3.) Lost your faceplate? Tough luck. You cannot file for RMA for the controller because of the lost faceplate. No faceplate, no serial.

4.) If you happen to have a limited edition controller, the only difference is the faceplates. There is no way in hell that I am going to be shipping my faceplates back with a bum controller should they get lost or damaged. Sorry, not happening. Shouldn't have to happen.

Thoughts?

Download counts: by version?

Hey,

I couldn't find an answer to this. The "Analytics" page provides a csv file of all our game's downloads. For each day, it lists out all the downloads of the game, split-up by version of the game.

So I want to count how many unique users have ever downloaded our game. My problem is: it's not clear how users who downloaded an UPDATE to the game are counted here.

Since there's no other counts provided of "user updates downloaded", I'm going to assume that this is a list of ALL downloads including updates. ...Which means I do not have a very clear view of how many UNIQUE users have downloaded the game, since many of the downloads on this sheet would be cases of an existing user downloading an update.

At the bare minimum, I'd hope that Ouya would split up "downloads" from "updates" in the analytics. (iTunes Connect makes this distinction, FWIW.) This would make it easier to guess at how many new unique users we're getting.

Ideally Ouya could provide even more clear analytics, like a quick way to answer 1) how many unique user IDs have ever downloaded the game, and 2) how many unique user IDs have ever actually LAUNCHED the game. (The latter of these can be provided by developers adding analytics to their games themselves... but it sure would be nice if Ouya could capture and report that information too!)

All this would make it easier to understand the "funnel" of how users are finding, acquiring, and purchasing games.

Was wondering what the general consensus on support turn around time is?

It seems to me that OUYA is being seriously overwhelmed and just needs more staff, this much is obvious. However I do understand why as OUYA is awesome and is only going to keep getting better with the community, something that will continue to grow.

Just wondering because I've been waiting over a week. The 2-3 day email is nice, but if you can't match that time you could at least say we are super busy and it will be addressed in the order received, etc.

If anyone from OUYA reads this my ticket is 55541. My OUYA was returned back to the USA (from Canada) because OUYA told UPS to send it back, when UPS was supposed to be holding it until I got back from vacation. UPS told me to contact the shipper, and I did, but it would have been nicer to actually speak to someone from OUYA the same day I talked to UPS (July 9th)

OUYA hire more staff for support! I just want my OUYA :(

I backed OUYA on day one for $129 (1 extra controller). $700 for an early box seemed utterly ridiculous when I could simply back early and receive early. That said, my game has been ready for OUYA integration and testing since March.

But thanks to someone's brilliant idea of shipping OUYAs completely out of order on an un-published schedule, I have yet to actually receive the console. In fact, I haven't even received a shipping confirmation email. Only God knows when this thing will arrive. It is probably in the very last batch.

By all rights, I should have received the OUYA in mid April, finished the game, and maybe even gotten it out of the sandbox by now.

In reality, I will be lucky to get the game INTO the sandbox before OUYA retail release on June 25th.

Sometimes I wonder why I even bother.

Hey guys, thanks for giving me the opportunity to publish my app on your platform. I know the sandbox system has been discussed at great length here, but I wanted to surface a concern that I hadn't seen posted anywhere else.

I published my first app (FilePwn) yesterday evening and overnight it became the leader in thumbs-ups in the sandbox. However, it's currently near last-place in the sandbox (farthest to the right). I agree wholeheartedly that the sandbox-escape metrics should be much more than thumbs up, but a different set of metrics might be necessary for certain types of apps. My "game" is a utility app, which focuses on doing a few tasks very well and very efficiently. In other words, its goal is to consume less of the user's time rather than more. Hence it scores very low on "play-time" metrics, which I gather are part of the escape criteria.

There may be other reasons that my app is near the bottom of the sandbox (e.g. it was published less than 24 hours ago), but I would humbly request that the team holding the keys to the sandbox take special care with any "games" in the App genre.

Thanks again :)
