I know that the ouya will most likely never be updated to a newer version of android because they can barely work the kinks out of the current build of android.

Having said that, if they managed to upgrade to 4.3, the new drm api's would encourage the streaming services like netflix, crunchyroll, and vudu to create apps for the Ouya. Netflix is finally allowing 1080p streams to devices running 4.3, and the others will be following suit.

Also, the official support for Bluetooth LE might improve the ouya's controller latency. Not to mention the benefits that ouya would get from 4.2 (multiple logins, etc...)

Sorry if this has been thought up
before, if it has just ignore this post.

I was looking at my old cartridge based
games this morning and thought up an idea to have cartridge like
format for Ouya.

I use to live way out in the boonies
and the only internet I had was crappy old dial up. I imagine that
there are still a lot of people that don’t have a decent internet
connection.

I was thinking that flash drives are so
affordable these days that they could substitute a cartridge. Places
like EB, Game Stop etc could have a bunch of blank “cartridges”,
a label maker and a way to copy to the cartridge in read only.

The customer would have to pay more for
the game in the end, but would end up with a physical copy that they
could collect or as I mentioned above use in the event an internet
connection is not a viable option of acquiring a game. Some people
like me just like to have something physical in their hands, even if
it cost a little more.

Maybe this idea is not financially
possible for Ouya, but I thought I would share just in case.

Hey!

I know there's been a couple of discussion about OUYA as a media center on here and those answered a lot of my questions, but there are still some that remain.

For anyone other looking for the same thing, here are the answers I already got:

- XBMC support: YES (http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=154499)

- Torrent Client support: YES - uTorrent for Android client (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.utorrent.client)

- CEC support (you can use your TV's remote if it also supports CEC - most modern TVs do): YES (http://forums.ouya.tv/discussion/comment/6874/#Comment_6874)

- External HDD support: YES - via USB 2.0 port

Now for the questions I still need answers too:

- Can I share files from external HDD with PC over LAN? Something like samba, which I'm currently using on my Raspberry Pi.

- How fast is the transfer between external HDD via LAN and PC in both directions? The R-Pi is really disappointing in this aspect. I can only get to 1MB/s of transfer speed to my PC or from my PC. With full HD video files weighting in at 10GB+ this is unusable.

- How loud is the OUYA fan? Is it always on, or just when the OUYA really needs it (i.e. when running games, playing video)? I plan on having the media center in my bedroom so I prefer it being as quiet as it can be. While playing movies it's not as important if the sound from the TV drowns it out, but when the TV is off and I'm sleeping I prefer it to make as little noise as possible, if any.

- Can I use an USB hub and connect multiple devices to OUYA that way? This isn't really as important as any of the other questions, but could be useful to know.

Hope you see what I'm trying to achieve with OUYA as a media server/center and can help me out with these answers.

-- gligoran

Or it is simply bad design on OUYA's part rendering it useless for gaming (it's intended use).

Before you ask, it is not my setup. I have my HDTV set to Game Mode, 120Hz off, and all the other recommended tweaks. Also PS3 plays on it wonderfully with no noticeable input lag whatsoever.

At this point I'd love to get more involved, develop for it, and promote it to friends, but right now I tell people to stay away from it. This input lag I'm experiencing with controllers is absolutely unacceptable and doesn't exist with other consoles connected to my same setup.

This is a point I have talked about before. That there should be the equivalent to steams shift+tab to access steam overlay and resume.

I originally thought this was the goal for the system menu call(double tap center button). Though I became concerned it was moving away from that. Now it has completely moved away from that and turned into a forced quite. The equivalent of alt+f4. As confirmed by the little popup when you enter a game.

My discussion where I brought this up no admin replied on this topic.

An overlay would be handy so you can do these common things.

like check if friends are playing something or browse for that much needed walk through or world map and switch between them easily.

Also it seems an ideal place for notifications which is currently buried in the manage menu.

It also seems like all the great android features are being buried. Which is just causing problems. like the internet radio app is a service that can run in the background while doing other stuff(like playing a puzzle game). Yet there is no way to access it without exiting the current game and navigating to another app.

Ouya is looking more and more disappointing. I backed an open android device. What I have has the capabilities of ms-dos.

Hey everyone,

We just released a new game for Ouya, as of this morning: Gentlemen!

At the moment we are totally invisible on the store, which is a bit of a downer. You have to manually search for the game to find it.

I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for getting more visible on the store. Or maybe it's all done manually, so it will get updated in a few hours? Or is there a weekly refresh (à la App Store)?

Also, is there any chance of getting featured, or lobbying to get featured? This all seems very mysterious to me at the moment, any clarity/tips/discussion would be great.

It's quite misleading to those not previously familiar with the OUYA, because "Sandbox" is an entire genre of games.

A simple name change to "The Sandbox" possibly even with quotation marks to indicate that it's the OUYA sandbox and not the sandbox genre.

Is this a new firmware change? I see 'Downloads' (along with 'Audio' and 'Video') flash briefly, but they then disappear and I can't access files downloaded to internal storage. I'm also having trouble getting USB sticks to recognize. Has sideloading been disabled in the latest firmware? How should USB drives be formatted? Anyone else having the issue with the downloads menu?

Any advice is appreciated -

Nick

Linking Developer ID and Gamer ID with different email addresses

Now that the "testing" flag has been depreciated for In-App Purchases, I'm trying to link my Developer ID with my Gamer ID so that I can test IAPs. Until now, I had no idea the accounts should to be linked, or would need to have anything to do with each other.

The problem is that I used different email addresses to create each account, so when I click "gamer profile" while logged into the dev portal, it asks
for me to log into my gamer profile, but once I do, there's no
connection made between the accounts. At that point, I can select "become a developer," but it wants me to create a new developer account "with the same credentials" as my gamer account. Does that mean with the same username, too? I'm going in circles, and there doesn't seem to be an option for one account to "claim" the other.

I'm not even sure if it would work if my email addresses were the same, since the process is called "upgrade_from_gamer" so It seems to assume you didn't create the accounts independently.

Either way, I can't seem to change the email on my gamer profile in order to try it out, and I don't even know what would happen if I created a new gamer account with the same email as my dev account and tried to log into it from the link on dev portal. Would it link them at that point, or would I have to click "become a developer" from that account? And then, would it even realize I already had a dev account with that email address?

In any case, I don't actually want to create either a new Gamer or a new Dev account because I want to hold on to the usernames and forum history for both, and in the case of my gamer account, the "Founder" badge (since I am a Kickstarter backer). Yes, I suppose I could create a dummy Gamer account strictly for the purpose of testing IAPs, but I really don't want that kind of hassle, logging in and out all the time, and as I said, I don't know if that would work, since the login pages seem to want you to create the gamer account first.

Anyone face a similar confusion? Am I missing something obvious? (...it is 4am where I'm sitting.)

As everyone has seen the XBMC app for OUYA has been moving along over the past few months and we're pretty close to a build that we'd consider a release candidate. We've recently created a commercial fork of XBMC for OUYA and have a couple remaining items that need attention; this is where you come in. We need some developer help in making these final tweaks for our commercial build of XBMC, so check the list below and please pitch in if you can!

libstagefright integration

An OUYA friendly UI which also works well with our controller

General optimizations for playback, audio, menu navigation, you get the idea :)

We still have not integrated patches need to make HDMI-CEC work, but if there's anything in the fork that can be done in advance of this please feel free. Aside from the items I've bullet pointed it's really up to you guys to make any changes that will be XBMC a great experience for users on OUYA!

https://github.com/ouya/xbmc

I am sure a lot of you are using Dropbox here to synchronize/backup game dev work (myself included). However, a new service called Copy has launched, and they promise 15 GB free storage.

Additionally, if you can get a friend to sign up and install their client (Windows, Mac OSX, Linux, Android, iOS), you will receive 5 GB extra. Right now, there are no hard limit on that number, so you can in fact get lots of GBs for free by doing this.

Copy is the easiest way to store, protect and share amazing things. It keeps your computers in sync and your files available from anywhere, even on your mobile devices. With Copy, you can also easily share files with anyone publicly or privately. Copy for companies extends the cloud storage and sharing benefits into corporate environments with user and group management and added control of proprietary company data.

If you are interested, please consider signing up via my link. Then we both get 5 GB extra. Thanks :)

Copy referral link
