I'll confess I know next to nothing about Java, and I'm an absolute beginner in Android development. I've been fiddling around with the Haxe language, which can compile to Android, and so far I've got an ultra-limited demo running on my Ouya. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how I'd go about accessing the ODK's functionality from my Haxe program: I spent a good portion of yesterday trying to figure out how to get my demo to recognize the joystick only to discover it requires me to explicitly call a specific function in the (Java-based) ODK.

Any ideas how to bridge the gap here?

Anyhoo, is there an easy way i can produce stuff for the ouya and still be able to use python as well as not having to go out and buy an operating system that i absolutely abhor with every fibre of my being, just to run one program?

please help.

Hi

For the last year I've been learning
all things related to game development. I started this as a hobby to
keep my mind from rotting away. I'm now thinking it's a good idea to
consider making it my next job. Anyway my first question is.

1- Lets say I make a erotic visual
novel similar to those popular in Japan and I release it for the PC.
I understand that OUYA doesn’t accept anything sexually explicit.
Would there be a problem distributing it if I took out the erotic
content? I'd still rate it as heavy, just to not suffer complaints
later.

2- I'm still a year or two away from
producing a game I'll put my name on however, I would like to release
my first game(s) for free to promote my work. Could I upload my
games to OUYA as a freeware download?

Thanks in advance.

I'm very intrigued that they have Game Maker as a supported game engine, and as I was looking about I have many, many questions as I've never officially made a game or released one to the public, of course.

So... just how exactly does one submit a game to Ouya in the first place? What file do you send? Just a raw text sheet of all the code, the Game Maker file, and app that starts the game on Windows.... what? Or... worst case scenario... do I need to recode everything to run on the Ouya dev kit that you download here?

I also have other questions, but I'll ask them in different discussions so this one at least has some sort of focus.

Anyway, thanks in advance :)

-Wilford111

At the end of the day the Ouya is a going to be a retail video game console and consumers want to buy the final retail polished version of the game...not a beta. They wont understand the need to continue to grow. Navigation through the games needs to better to make it easier for the consumer to get what they want, web browser and steaming app needs its own catorgory on the OS main screen and some orangizaitonal features for the games downloaded and a way to at least customize the GUI background....For a console made to be tinker with this should be basic. I want a pic of my family or nice setting in the background...not an Orange screen...it screams beta. Also a way to track our concurrt downloads would be nice. And also a way to make the WIFI alot better. its way to slow for a console of this nature where no physical media is being used. This weak WIFI feature is borderline inexcuseable. And also the off screen web broswer and GUI needs to be fixed as well. Think of the consumer base not the developer base....

I use a program called construct 2 which exports to html5 and was wondering if anybody had any sucess so far with intergrating the controller API into an .apk wrapper.
I've noticed i can use the controller in browser when playing an html5 version of my game, which im assuming the ouya is emulating keyboard controls. if this is the case, is there keyboard aliases for any of the other buttons i could utilize?

Hey guys I just want to offer a free service to those of you that do not have the ability to do screen recordings of their games/apps on ouya. If you want me to, I can make some gameplay videos of your games and give them to you to edit. Just send me a message telling me where I can download your apk from and what you want me to do in the video. I will then give it to you to edit/add sound effects and stuff like that. But just a warning, I do not currently have sound working with my screen capture device so there will be NO SOUND but if it magically starts working, you'll be lucky haha but don't get your hopes up

This service is only offered as I have free time and I am not garunteed to return a video to you if you message me. I'll try to get em all out there but no promises :)
