Hopefully she will be on board at 28 March.

No dev console at the moment, so development is based on XBox controller + Nexus 7.

Sky Maze is a pure Java game, based on -lovely- 3d engine jPCT.
In this game you steer left and right trying to avoid the walls alongside the procedurally generated path. Along the way different "power ups" are placed in your path that will affect the game and purposely try to distract you. Thus, it is titled "Power Ups that Kill!" "Power ups" will affect the wall colors, the direction your ship flies, and the speed you travel at. Everything in this game is random so you will never play the same way twice. It will be available on both the Ouya and Android phones and tablets. We will upload a beta apk to both the Ouya store and here for Android users to test before official release. Please download it and test for us if you think it looks interesting!

Here is a video of what the game looks like currently:

Ok, it's last minute, but I've been focusing on our new game for CREATE:

Orb0 is a team of 3 (currently) friends/colleagues who wanted to make games. We backed Ouya in kickstarter, and are now pushing our first project to the Create Game Jam.

It's an Action RPG sort of, but heavier focus on the action. I think of it as more of a Dungeon Brawler than a Dungeon Crawler. We're still hammering out the mechanics some, but essentially it's based on timing, chaining and combos of melee abilities, with a simple "stun" mechanic on attacks, similar to traditional street brawlers such as Streets of Rage, River City Ransom, and so on...

It's a top down view, and it has basic character stats and character development...

Where the name NewGame+ comes from, is we're almost parodying the conventional NewGame+ feature of many ARPGs... In this one you play, you don't earn xp or anything. You find skill potions which give you skill points.

All stats are calculated from one positive and one negative ability... Maxing Dex will make you fast, but it will also weaken your attacks unless you balance it with Power, and so on... The game is about minmaxing... You can raise AND lower any ability at any time, if you have skillpoints to spend.

Your character is permanently persisted, so when you die, you simple start over and dive back into the dungeon, and continue advancing. But all you get to keep for your next pass is your characters earned skill points, and 4 basic stats.

The dungeons, monsters, and loot are procedurally generated. And the dungeon is infinite.

From a setting perspective it's very much inspired by Gauntlet. Dive in, dive deep, and play forever if you like. It's not about "beating" the game, it's about who can get the deepest (and for the final game we plan on having social media interaction for bragging rights, and plenty of achievements).

Also, it's got local multiplayer co-op. So a friend can dive in at any time and play a complimentary character to the Player1 Character. Brawling their way through the dungeon together!

It's just a prototype, it's in need of a fair bit of polish, and many of my end-goal features aren't complete yet.

But it does have the core mechanics in place I think, and it works as a prototype for sure. There are bugs, and minor issues, but overall it's a playable prototype that I think qualifies nicely for CREATE!

This is the kind of game I think I'd love to play, and I hope others will have a lot of fun with it too!

Anyway I'd love to hear your thoughts!

In the meantime I'm going to get my nose back to the grindstone and crank out the remaining bugfixes and features leading up to the deadline tonight at midnight!

Once I have a completed build I'll put up the youtube trailer including gameplay footage!

Here are a few screenshots for now, and our facebook page is at: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Orb0/413559668723791

Screenshots:

We thought we'd share our progress from the first day with OUYA. It's a generic Android build, and making the game run on the console required only a few modifications. :)

So, here's Jarkka and OUYA in the game corner of our office.

Hi all,

we wanted to let you know that our game TRAXION is coming to OUYA!

Check out the trailer:

TRAXION is a physics-based shooter, in the tradition of cave flyers such as “Thrust” or “Gravity Crash”.

In the role of a daring starship pilot, you embark on a series of neck-breaking missions in outer space. Navigate your ship through the caves of dangerous alien planets and find the valuable crystals hidden there. Tow them back to the planet’s surface, using your ship’s tractor beam. But be careful -- enemy patrol ships and other kind of hostile alien creatures are out to get you!

What makes Traxion cooler than other games of this genre is the fact that the
entire game world, and all objects in it, are affected by physics. This
allows us to create very interesting situations and challenges for the
player. All levels in the game are designed around physical puzzles.

During your explorations of alien planets and their vast cave systems, you will find all kinds of contraptions, such as switches, explosive charges, force-fields and various pieces of alien machinery that you can use to your advantage. Moreover, in order to succeed in your mission on each planet, you’ll have to fight rather terrifying boss-monsters.

We have some screenshots up here:

https://picasaweb.google.com/111071755040679367239/Traxion?authuser=0&feat=directlink

We also have a Facebook page where you can get all the latest information:

https://www.facebook.com/pages/Traxion/138256469623743

Please let us know your comments!

Thanks

Hello everyone, I'm Ryan from Screenwave Media. We develop the iOS and Android apps for YouTube personalities such as The Angry Video Game Nerd, Angry Joe, Retroware TV, Spoony, Continue Show, and more. We are interested in porting our Android apps to the platform. We have a development box and contributed to the campaign individually for several release consoles. Will an "app" rather than a "game" pass the approval process? We would like to begin porting, but want to know if this will end up being a wasted effort. We see the Ouya as the ideal platform to bring our clients' content from web and mobile and into the living room.

Background: When Developer Jam contest was originally announced, it only excluded kickstarter funded and released games. Which was perfect as I had a real-time strategy/tower defense hybrid in the works and began to port it across to the console (including having some artwork redone to accommodate the HD scale). Then on January 14th, the official rules were posted that explicitly banned any game in development prior to January 7th (even if internal and unreleased). I'm a stickler for the rules so I quickly shifted gears despite the road bump and new shorter development cycle.

Limitations: Due to having to finalize a script, hire voice actors, determine how it would actually play, and get assets created (again a new concept), development time suffered. We have the entire script for the game recorded and about ~75% of the final artwork assets completed, but there simply wasn't enough time to implement it all. Even the highlight (the 2nd player which is a dragon companion) never fully made it in as I couldn't resolve an issue where the 2nd player controller would report itself as player 1 for stick movements only despite having a different deviceID (likely something dumb on my part but not enough time to debug it). As such, truly nothing more than a very rough demo at this point.

Future: The game is scoped for around 4-5 hours of gameplay as the overall plot is divided into chapters. Future releases would build upon this world's story. Gameplay itself is most similar to Secret of Mana in that you can have two simultaneous players who fight and solve puzzles together. Aiming to have a polished title in time for the Ouya console launch. Regardless of how disappointed I am in myself for not being able to do more, the progress from the challenge has been a big help in getting things going quickly, which should end up leaving a ton of time for bug fixing, play balancing, and lots of tuning.

Video:

Good luck to everyone developing for Ouya! For updates on my title, feel free to bookmark http://www.fallenheroesgame.com (website will be created in a week or two). I'll also update with other ways to follow as most of the effort has been in creating the game over promotion (even my youtube video was a last minute one-take recording). Thanks!
