Hi, I'm Ben (twit|tumb). I've been working as a designer in the games industry for a little over 8 years now (you may have played my level in the original Dead Space). My partner Vikram (a great engineer who has worked for Google and with Katamari designer Keita Takahashi) and I produced a game in the rapidly growing Bunch Of Players Knock A Ball Around genre. We're both members of NYC's games/art collective Babycastles.

Our BOPKABA is called Tossers, and it's inspired by Marbles & Curling, with the twist being that you hurl your teammate instead of a 40-pound chunk of Scottish granite.

tl;dr?

We were much inspired by our friends, The Sportsfriends, and by NYC's wonderful independent game developer community. I imagine we'll stash an .apk somewhere soon enough. This weekend we are busy hosting two different Global Game Jam venues in Manhattan and Bushwick.

Major Dev Plans:
- Redo controls: Tossers was built without access to any Ouya hardware which was... limiting. We have ideas on how to build it specifically for the OUYA controller, but that will require touching one first.
- Powerups & Other Temporary Chaos: It's hard to come back from behind in this first-playable version. We actually have designs for this, but did not have enough time to get them balanced during the jam period, so we commented them out. Teaser: big inspirations here are Mario Kart & Jungle Speed.
- Visuals: Neither one of us is a great artist, so we kept things spare to focus on what we do best. We're both committed to a "clean" look like the one we sort of poorly modeled already, but there are a lot of ways that could go. We'd like to engage some of our friends from the local arts community to create something beautiful & distinctive. We also want to make the visuals more effective at communicating some of the sort of hard-to-read stuff in the game (like who picked up who, etc.)
- Music: Did you know there are a lot of musicians in Brooklyn? We know some of them, and would like to get them involved! As with the visuals, we would like very much to assemble a soundtrack that a big studio could never pull off.
- Non-4-Player Mode: Good AI is hard! But we have a plan.

Visorman

Coming to OUYA mid 2013

I haven’t bought a retail title in quite a while; all of those memories are gone. The gaming industry (at least to me) has become bland and overrun by formula. Where as back when I socially played games (and still do play the very same games today) games were quite innovative, strategic, and other factors that I could list forever, games these days lack those factors, and reuse and re-employ popular factors used in the best selling game. *cough* Call of Duty/Halo/Gear of War. 99% of first person shooters available on the market today employ some kind of iron-sight feature (Aim down sights for some), a generic setting, usually involving some kind of war, where as you play as a ‘Generic Army Guy’, a Super Soldier, or some other character that you cannot connect with whatsoever. AI Bot support in multiplayer has been replaced by online features, and most FPS’ do not even have splitscreen anymore to begin with.

Visorman brings it all back.

'Bu.. But Who is Visorman?'

Visorman is being developed for the Android platform and is planned for release on OUYA (and possibly other formats later on) in mid 2013. Visorman is a superspy whom wears a black visor over his eyes. He stars in his own game which is massively inspired by FPS’ of old, such as ‘Goldeneye 64’, ‘Perfect Dark’, and the massively underrated ‘XIII’ (one of my favourite games to date, to be honest.) Visorman’s mission is to steal and destroy the modern day formulas; his enemies being the culprits responsible for the decline of todays gaming industry, including the ‘Generic Army Guy’ and the ‘Generic Super Soldier’. The levels, playing out like retro titles such as Goldeneye, are inspired by the games of old, yet will be satirically placed in environments similar to popular games of today. For example, the first mission takes place in a typical army base, located in a generic desert-like place, which most would assume is ‘Afgan’, or something of the like.

Even the controls are a-like to your FPS’ that you would play on a Nintendo 64. Visorman controls with a control style that I hadn't used since 'Goldeneye 64', or '007 Nightfire'; he controls with only one thumbstick rather than the 'Dual-Thumbstick' control scheme employed in today's FPS'. Visorman takes it right back; even to using a shoulder button to make your headshots.

Almost obviously, if you have read all of the above, you would probably guess that a massive amount of effort is being placed on the splitscreen multiplayer aspect of Visorman; as we all remember those days with James Bond and Ourumov in Goldeneye 64's multiplayer (At least my friends always raced to be Ourumov...) After taking notes on many nights playing Goldeneye 64 with some friends, Visormans multiplayer is heavily inspired by that kind of gameplay; multiple levels, scenarios (game modes), handicaps, character select, and weapon sets.

Visorman is in somewhat early development; however I am constantly posting updates to my Twitter account. Please; every follower helps! I would massively appreciate any followers if you are interested. Moral support is always great!

https://twitter.com/PolygonGaming_

Follow me on Twitter for regular updates, screenshots, and gameplay content of Visorman!

Every follower is appreciated!

Thanks for reading everyone!

Now I'm really worried that some how, in some way, Saturday Morning RPG is unlocking the full version on its own with no purchase required.

If you guys could download the game and verify this for me, it would be incredibly appreciated. I've never seen it happen on our Dev OUYA or our Retail OUYA. To check, just navigate to "Endless Battle" or "Arena Battle" and let me know if it says "Purchase Game" on the left of the screen. After that, I'd appreciate if you checked the "Episodes" menu. Episode 2, 3, and 4 should only be playable after purchasing the game.

Thanks guys!

Or maybe a short little dotted line (like Angry Birds) as you point your stick around.

I nearly gave up on the game after 5-10 minutes because I didn't understand that I need to point my stick in the direction I wanted to jump. I thought it just always jumped in the direction I was facing. Without using the stick I was only able to get up to maybe 25m. I thought the game was just absurdly difficult and nearly hit uninstall when I figured out the stick launch direction thing.

Hi, I'm new to the community.

We pre-ordered an ouya months ago, but havn't received or heard anythingnyet. Havn't really looked at the ouya sdk yet.

We are looking at the emerging android game consoles and have a few projects we are considering for ouya...

1. An opengl game we already have on iOS, Danger Quest: http://www.makeitsostudios.com/app.php?a=dangerquest
2. A more ambitious 3D game being done in native-c OpenGL.
3. Another ambitious multiplayer game with Cordova frontend that we are working on with a larger project team.
4. A whole series of simpler trivia games using Cordova.

All of these have in-app or freemium sales models.

In the past we have focusednon native iOS, but we are now looking at more cross platform game dev.

Would these projects fit Ouya?

How much work is Ouya porting for native-c or Cordova games? (hoping none)

Thanks!
Tim - makeitsostudio
(edit - just added CR)

I just released my first ever Ouya game to the public on the 25th, and it's also my first official video game for an actual system.

The object of the game is, you're just a 15 year old kid trying to get some video games, when a barrage of picky customers come in and start grabbing all of them! Your goal is to snatch more games than they do, but you also have to keep an eye on your budget and make sure you don't run outta money! The game starts off pretty easy, but gets trickier as you progress through the levels. There are also settings to change various gameplay aspects as well. I also put in an 80's version of the game, which is pretty much Game Catcher with an 80's 8-bit/arcade feel to it. And finally, there's a save feature so you can come back to the game later.

Much of the game is very humor-based. Each game farts when you collect it (no real purpose for that, just a gag I threw in there xDD), and there's also an interesting "Last Game Bought" stat, that randomly selects from a list of 1000 game titles (some real, some fake), which is also entertaining to look at. XD

Besides the mentioning of real game titles in the "Last Game Bought" stat, I made all the content in Game Catcher myself-- the music, the art, the programming, etc. I haven't implemented 2P mode yet, because I want to see what kind of a response this game gets from an audience. So far, 3 people already liked the game and it's gotten 128 downloads after 3 days, so that's pretty awesome!

Here's a couple screenshots of the game. Hope you guys like it. ^^

One of the stretch goals of my kickstarter was to bring my game Quintet to OUYA. I'm making great progress. Here's a video of what I have so far:

In the video, I'm playing a solo ship on the OUYA while other players are flying other ships with up to 3 and 5 players on each ship working together. All of the different platforms can play together: mac, pc, linux, android, ios and OUYA.

Hi my name is John Anderson, I am the Founder, Lead Programmer and Writer for Happy Bomb Games. Right now, I am currently writing up the storyboard for a first-person shooter game the will be available exclusively for OUYA. The idea for this project is to re-create classic mid to late 90's FPS style games (like 007 GoldenEye and Turok) with a mixture of modern day gameplay mechanics. I can't talk much about right now because the game is still in its meta (pre-planning) stage at this moment. The engine I am using for the game is the Unity 4 Game Engine and for the IDE I am using is Visual Studios coding in C#. I will talk more about the project later this year, If you have any question for me about the project or on anything else please your question in the comment area.

P.S. - Rebel Software has been re-named to Happy Bomb Games due to copyright reasons and Blackjack: Empire Rises is no longer in operation.

Bovine Software uploaded a new video of Darkwurm yesterday. He is making a Ouya version as well as the IOS version. It looks beautiful and the puzzle elements makes it unique to anything I've seen coming to the Ouya. It's yet another game I'm really interested and I had to share it. If you like it, mention it on his YouTube video.

New DarkWurm Video
